☀️ A U G U S T ☀️ 1. Sometimes they fight like ca ☀️ A U G U S T ☀️ 1. Sometimes they fight like cats and dogs. Sometimes they giggle at each other until their cheeks hurt. 2. Find you a Daddy who will come over and repair your door when you get locked inside your house while the husband is out of town. ❤️ 3. We made it 13.5 years without a kid cutting their hair. She made up for it. lol 4. Giving it his all at his regional swim meet in Minnesota and earned 13th in the mile in the central region for USA swimming. 5. Just a girl in her Sunday best, wearing headphones that don’t work 😆, trying to decide on what drink to get for herself 6-7. Meet the teacher, 1st grade edition 8. Is there anything more serious than checkers between brothers? 9-10. Birthday messes! 11. Only Mrs. Lyndsey would let him recline while she cuts his hair. 🤷🏻‍♀️🙄 @lfroud 12-13. First day of 1st grade and 8th grade 🥹 14. Knox doesn’t waste any space in his wallet. 15. He also loves making love notes. ❤️ 16-17. Family day shopping in Branson 18-19. First Wednesday back for Awana and students! 20. The ultimate birthday cake—no arguments. Thank you to everyone who has taken time to wish me a happy birthday. I much prefer to not have the attention on me, but it feels good to be loved and thought of by so many wonderful people. 42, I’m ready for you!!

Knox, master entrepreneur, was given glow sticks for free and turned around to sell the for $1 each to other neighborhood kids during the fireworks show… 3. Older kids fireworks entertainment: that light in the sky is a drone, not a star! 4. Fireworks with our church people ❤️ 5. End of an era. Bye bye cozy coupe 😢 6. Double riders! 7. Twin missing front teeth. The third tooth they’ve lost. Each of them within a week of each other. Amazing. #twinning 8-10. 1st grade Bible presentation 11-12. Delta missions trip for Cooper. I want to never forget how chatty he was telling us all the stories and life change he experienced. God is good. 13. Okra flowers always stun me with their beauty. 14. 📸 by an anonymous child of a mundane task. 🥰 15. Farmer Knox’s first cantaloupe!! 16. Who needs one Kona Ice when you could get THREE?? 17. Train ride entertainment for swim siblings 18. Your 13-14 year old state champion in the 1500. Beyond proud of his hard work, determination, and sportsmanship. I’m floored by how fast summer has gone by. It’s been one thing after another all summer. We’ve celebrated with each other and grieved with friends and others around us. I don’t understand it all, but I’m learning to be grateful for the few quiet days—or just moments the Lord has given us as a family among all the busy-ness. For the sparks of joy that squeeze in the middle of sadness. Thank you, Lord, for quiet moments to remind us to be still and soak up your creation and your blessings and to remind us that you are still in control no matter the circumstances.
I LOVE using just one book to plan an entire week I LOVE using just one book to plan an entire week of plans for our literacy block. Swipe to see how I do it! 📕 MONDAYS ARE FOR VOCAB - We introduce our new book and explicitly teach the Tier 2 vocabulary words in the book. And kids write sentences using vocabulary words. 📕 TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS ARE FOR COMPREHENSION - Usually, we use 2 days mid-week to focus on reading comprehension standards like retelling, story elements, comparing character adventures, main idea/key details, etc through reading, oral language, and writing 📕 THURSDAYS ARE FOR CONTENT - Think science and social studies connections to the read aloud! 📕 FRIDAYS ARE FOR PARAGRAPH WRITING - writing is a part of every day of the week, but on Fridays it's all about paragraph writing. Kids respond to a writing prompt as we review a specific type of writing (narrative, opinion, or informative), and they create a craft to display with their writing. This is a great way to end the week and they always make fun hallway displays! Are you wondering the best way to use decodables i Are you wondering the best way to use decodables in your K-2 classroom? Here's a peek at my favorite decodable routine for the week... 📕 READ INDEPENDENTLY FIRST - During our whole group phonics time (usually on Wednesdays), we are ready to practice our phonics skill for the week in context! I let the kids read it quietly by themselves first for about 2-4 minutes as I walk around and listen in. 📕 HIGHLIGHT HEART WORDS - Next, I point out the heart words in the story (on the cover) and give kids 2-3 minutes to find them in the text and highlight them with a light crayon. 📕 PARTNER UP - Then, I have kids buddy read with a partner close by. (I like to use their "shoulder" partner for this to minimize transition time.) 📕 SMALL GROUP INTERVENTION - Once I have finished this basic routine, I note kids who need additional help and pull them in a small group for additional intervention. We reread the same text or pick another passage or book on the same skill. Want more details?
